Bambu Studio: the Bambu Lab slicer and exporting a model
Bambu Studio is a free, open source slicer from Bambu Lab. It is used mainly by owners of Bambu printers, but it is an ordinary slicer and we can accept a 3MF project from it.

What Bambu Studio is
Bambu Studio is published by the Chinese company Bambu Lab, which makes the X1, P1 and A1 series of printers. The source code is on GitHub and it is derived from PrusaSlicer. Another slicer, OrcaSlicer, is in turn derived from Bambu Studio. It is the natural choice for Bambu printers, but it also opens 3MF files from other sources.
Multicolour models from Bambu Studio
Bambu Studio is strong at multicolour printing. You assign colours to whole objects or to their parts, and you can even paint them onto the surface. You save the project as 3MF and that is all you need to send us. The colours are kept in the file and we print the model on printers with an automatic filament changer, up to 4 colours.
Remember that every colour change adds a purge tower, extra material use and time, so multicolour pieces cost more. You see the price straight after upload. More in the entry on multicolour printing.
What not to send us
G-code and .gcode.3mf files with finished instructions for Bambu printers will not help us, because we print on a different type of printer. From the project we take only the model and the assigned colours. You choose the infill strength and the material in the calculator.
Bambu Studio and your order
In Bambu Studio open the model, assign colours in the Objects tab or paint them on the surface and keep only the colours you really need. Every additional colour lengthens the print. Then save the project as 3MF. The maximum size of a single part with us is 246 × 246 × 256 mm, so check that for large models.
After you upload the 3MF we genuinely prepare the model for printing on our server and calculate the price per piece and the lead time from real grams and time. Supports are added automatically and are included in the price.
Common questions
Is Bambu Studio free?
Yes, it is free and open source.
Should I send a project from Bambu Studio?
Yes, saved as 3MF. We accept it up to 50 MB, with colours assigned.
Does Bambu Studio work with other printers too?
Yes, it supports printers from other brands as well, but that does not matter for an order with us, because we prepare the model for printing ourselves.

Slicer
A slicer is a program that cuts a 3D model into thin layers and works out the nozzle path for each one. The result is G-code for the printer and exact figures for material use and print time.
3MF
3MF is a 3D printing file format that carries units, colours, materials and several parts as well as the shape of the model. It succeeds STL and is the best choice for multicolour printing.
G-code
G-code is a list of commands for a printer or CNC machine that sets the movements, speed, temperature and amount of material. In 3D printing a slicer creates it from a 3D model.
OrcaSlicer
OrcaSlicer is a free, open source slicer derived from Bambu Studio. It supports many printer brands and has built-in calibration tools.
PrusaSlicer
PrusaSlicer is a free, open source slicer from Prusa Research. It converts a 3D model into instructions for the printer and lets you set up the print in detail.
Multicolour printing
Multicolour printing is 3D printing in which the printer swaps between several filaments and prints one part in several colours at once, with no gluing or painting.
