Build volume: how large a part can be printed
Build volume is the largest block that fits in a 3D printer, set by the size of the plate and the height of the Z axis. With us a single part can be at most 246 × 246 × 256 mm.

What build volume is
The build volume has three dimensions: the width and depth of the build plate and the height the head can rise to. The whole part has to fit inside this block, including any supports or a perimeter flange (brim).
The manufacturer's figure is usually a little larger than what is really usable. In multicolour printing the wipe tower takes up space on the plate as well. For our printers the limit is 246 × 246 × 256 mm for one part.
What to do with a larger model
A part exceeding these dimensions has to be split into pieces. The pieces are then glued together (gluing) or joined with pegs and holes. A good cut runs through a place where the part carries no load.
Note that if a model looks too big after uploading, it may be in a unit other than millimetres. In that case the scale in the calculator will help.
Size and price
- More parts on the plate. We calculate the price per part and the lead time from how many parts fit at once (full bed).
- A large part. It takes up the whole plate and takes a long time, so it costs more.
- Small parts. With a larger quantity they fit on one plate and the price per part falls.
What counts toward the space as well
Besides the model itself, space is also taken by a skirt, the outline line around the part, and with tall thin parts a raft. In multicolour printing the wipe tower is added too. If a part measures almost the full 246 mm, these elements may no longer fit, and the part has to be made slightly smaller or split.
Height is limited by the print head having to clear the top edge of the part. The taller the part, the greater the risk of vibration, so for very tall and thin parts it is worth considering a split into smaller pieces.
Common questions
What is the largest part you can print?
At most 246 × 246 × 256 mm in one piece. Larger models have to be split.
What if my model is bigger?
Split it into pieces that fit and glue them together after printing. Scaling it down also helps, if the dimensions of the part allow it.
How do I split a large model?
In CAD or in a program such as Blender or OrcaSlicer, cut it into pieces with a flat face on the bottom and join them with glue or pegs.

Build plate
The build plate is the flat surface of a 3D printer onto which the first layer is printed and from which the finished part is removed once it has cooled. Its surface affects adhesion and the look of the part's underside.
Splitting a model
Splitting a model means cutting a large or complex part into several pieces that are printed separately and joined afterwards. It is used when a model does not fit on the bed or prints better in parts.
Model scale
Model scale is the ratio by which a model is enlarged or reduced from its original dimensions. In the calculator you enter it as a percentage and the price and lead time are recalculated.
Full bed
A full bed is when as many pieces of one model as possible fit on the print plate and the printer prints them all at once. The price per piece is then at its lowest.
Gluing prints
Gluing prints means joining PLA or PETG parts with adhesive. Most often superglue or two-part epoxy is used.
Supports
Supports are auxiliary columns of material that hold up the overhanging parts of a part in 3D printing. They are removed after printing, but they add material, time and marks on the surface.
